It’s been a while since I’ve written another scene for “The Bodice Rips…” Part of it is that I was working on another story, one that, frankly, excited me more. As I sat down to work on “The Bodice Rips…” today, I realized I was stuck.
So, I did what any normal woman does. I went shopping. Granted, it was only to the grocery store, but being surrounded by good organic veggies, even here in Montana, stimulates my mind. I even bought a hyacinth to evoke the scent of romance in my heart.
Nope. Didn’t work.
But, I did realize that I didn’t care enough about the characters. They have some interesting aspects, but I wasn’t sure it was enough to keep you, my readers, reading. It certainly wasn’t enough to keep me, the writer, writing!
Obviously, I had to try a new approach. When in doubt, turn to an expert! Or at least someone with a different point of view. I chose Writing Romance by Vanessa Grant from my writing shelf.
I’ve spent a few hours this afternoon deepening the lives of Jane and Michael. They’ve now got a natural-born conflict! And I have more respect for them…want to know a secret? I was concerned Jane was whining too much…now I know why!
You’ll have to wait a bit to see what I mean. I’ve got work to do!
