DH and I decided to escape the smoke a bit and go to the movies. We chose “Wind River,” set on the Native American reservation for the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho (traditional enemies) Native American tribes in Wyoming. It is an excellent movie, but definitely not a romance.
The Montana audience was totally engrossed; absolute silence during some parts of the movie. With seven reservations in the state, most of us know something about Native American life. What I didn’t know was that no statistics are kept for missing Native American women.
Compared to the immediacy of the storms battering our southeastern states and the islands of the Caribbean, this statistic could be something easily swept aside. This stark and compelling movie demands we pay attention. (To read more information about the reality behind “Wind River”, click here.)
It’s not a light movie, but it’s an excellent one.
