Several years ago DH and I went on a fall trip that had been recommended by Sunset Magazine. The trek took us down the “Loneliest Highway in America” (Nevada’s Route 50), to Great Basin National Park and to the small town of Boulder, Utah.
It was peak color for the aspens in Great Basin. We spent hours oohing and ahhing over the trees–must have shot hundreds of photos. It was one of those serendipitous perfect days–and a time to be perfectly in love, no matter how long we’d been together.
The contrast of the golden leaves with the red rocks of Utah exploded our palate of color. It was vibrant, and ultimately inspired me to create one of my first (and so far only) art quilts. The lodge was beautiful and Hells Backbone Grill an amazing place to eat with a great story. Their Cowgirl Meatloaf is a wintertime staple in our house.
Travel like this provides renewal for existing relationships and chances for new relationships to bloom. A change of scenery can expand your horizons and is a staple of romance novels and the Hallmark channel. Before the seasonal crazies descend, take some time to savor fall’s tease to your senses–the color of leaves, the tart sweetness of apple pie, and the rustle of the leaves and children’s sounds of joy as they discover the happiness of leaping into a pile of leaves.
